Saving Hector's Life!

by Andrey Strizhkov
Hector, a local husky and a dear friend to many, and his journey from trauma to recovery told by Andrey, Abastan community artist:

For a long time, Hector lived tied to a quince tree in the yard of an abandoned house. Though people occasionally came to feed him, his life was confined to a small patch of earth. Then when Egr and I rented the house, the first thing we did was set Hector free. He became a part of our lives, roaming and exploring the world.

One morning, Christina called me and said that Hector was injured. I rushed to the street, where I met Sasha. Together, we found Hector—and at first, I thought it was just a simple dog fight wound. But as I looked closer, I gasped: one of his legs was nearly severed. Without hesitation, we lifted him into the car and sped to Gyumri, to see Vardan, our trusted veterinarian.

This was just the beginning of a long and difficult journey. Saving Hector’s life would require significant resources, dedication, and support from many people. Our community immediately came together. Some organized a crowdfunding campaign to cover the expensive medical costs. Vova kindly offered us a place to stay in Gyumri. Sasha stood by my side, assisting with medical procedures.

After a month and a half of intensive care, surgeries, and rehabilitation, Hector made a full recovery. He regained his strength, his spirit, and his ability to run freely once again. But his story didn’t end there—he soon found a new home in Russia, where he now lives happily with my mother and another husky.

Hector’s journey is a testament to the incredible impact of compassion and collective effort. Without the kindness of so many people, he wouldn’t be alive today. His story is a reminder that every life is worth saving—and that when we come together, we can create miracles. Thank you to everyone who helped make Hector’s second chance at life possible.
