On 27th of June we held a one-day workshop on creating textile masks from old clothes. The purpose of the workshop was to show participants that old clothes don’t have to be thrown away, but can be used as a valuable material for creativity.
A theatrical mask is an expressive way to tell a story and see yourself as a character in that story. Paradoxically, a mask, whose purpose is to hide the face, reveals a lot about the character of its creator.
For some participants, it was their first encounter with the material, while others came with their own ideas and intended to leave the class with a finished piece. Even those participants who had never tried sewing or modelling before achieved interesting and unexpected results.
